4Q Producer makes Big Splash at the Big Tune Red Bull Battle

Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Fourth Quarter lead Producer John McCall aka "J-Mac" has shown his production prowess on various projects but never on stage. That changed when he was asked to be a part of Red Bull's Big Tune Production Battle on July 23rd in Chicago.
What is a production battle? Well many have seen the movie "8 Mile" where artist Eminem stand toe to toe on stage attempting to defeat his opponent in a lyrical competition. Picture that with two producers and two sets of turn tables playing the hottest urban music beats in the country.
A Chicago based producer battle was a long way from the small town of Edenton, NC where McCall grew up. At 6'6" McCall is a looming figure yet his demeanor speaks nothing but southern hospitality.
No room for southern hospitality at the battle as McCall defeated producers such as Illanoiz and Nascent winning him a trip to Atlanta for the November 3rd finals.
This time McCall was facing winning producers from and every state and competition was fierce. No matter, John McCall finished in the top 4 in the country receiving the following praise from industry leaders...
Jonathan Moore (aka "J-Moore", National Program Director - Red Bull Big Tune):
"J-Mac
is one of the most talented emerging producers in the business... His
unique sense of melody, accompanied with a great ear for creative
arrangement, will definitely make him an Artist to watch out for."
Jake Dutton (aka "Jake One"):
"J-Mac had such a versatile arsenal of music for his first Red Bull Big Tune, and is on his way as a dominant producer."
