Fourth Quarter Music producer "J-Mac" wins 2010 Soundtrack Beat Battle in Nashville.

Thursday, April 01, 2010
Nashville, the new hip-hop capitol. What? Sounds ridiculous for a town known for its country music roots but lets face it...times have changed. Funny thing is, if you met John McCall (aka J-Mac) and he told you he was going to Nashville you would probably think he was either going to the Country Music Hall of Fame or he had family there. Turns out he had his eyes set on the 2010 Soundtrack Beat Battle title, and he wasn't going to leave without it.
"It's Fourth Quarter Time!" That's the well known tag line you hear at the beginning of every J-Mac beat, and if you heard it March 26th then you were either in the crowd loving it...or you were going home. As a member of the Fourth Quarter Entertainment music entity J-Mac has been making some heavy waves since his first battle in July 2009 at the Big Tune Red Bull Producer Challenge. Since then, label executives and artists alike have turned their heads rapidly towards the stage saying "who is that?" Well known artist Mistah F.A.B. just recently featured J-Mac on his "Prince of the Coast" album after hearing him at the Red Bull Battle.

Same story unfolded at Rocketown in Nashville where the battle featured judges Tiffany J (manager of The Heatmakers, Bangladesh, The Apple Juice Kid, EZ Elpee, etc.), The Ambassadors (production duo under Polo da Don - produced/wrote "Love In This Club" by Usher), and Stephen Whitaker (VP of Couture Music/Warner Music Group). The judges obviously know their hip-hop music and could not deny the sound coming from the six foot six producer from North Carolina. "J-Mac just played the best beat of the night," said Tiffany J. "His drums were out of control and I couldn't stop bobbing my head!" "His versatility was what really had me going," Stephen Whitaker stated. "He did a good job with all of the change-ups and keeping it interesting. I have to agree, his drums are CRAZY!"
J-Mac, a rookie to the beat battle scene, was blown away by the praise from the high level executives. "It's just a privilege to be a part of such a great event and have people of that caliber talk about your music like that. It's a huge motivator." It's not surprising that his drums were a huge hit considering McCall is a drum major at NC State. The 21 year old has a bright future. Artist, producer, and executive Coko Korrine founded the Soundtrack Beat Battle and invited J-Mac to attend this year. She made a good choice.
